How Domi Gate works
Three parts and one door controller. The entrance panel and the resident's phone each connect outward to the Domi Gate server, which relays the call. The panel talks to a separately powered door controller, and the controller switches the lock.
The parts
-
The entrance panel
A rugged touch panel at the entrance with a camera, a keypad, a tag reader and a Bluetooth link to the door controller. It stores the building's credentials encrypted and decides at the door whether a PIN, a tag or a QR code opens it.
-
The Domi Gate server
Runs in the EU and is the only meeting point. It rings the right phones, relays the call, authorises remote unlocks, syncs credentials to the panel and keeps the access log and the audit trail.
-
The resident app
An Android app. It rings when a visitor calls the apartment, shows the video before anything is answered, and opens the door with one tap. Several phones per apartment can ring.
-
The door controller
A small board on the secured side of the door with its own power supply. It switches the electric strike, and it accepts only authenticated, replay-protected commands from the panel it is paired with.
How a door call travels
Both devices connect outward to the server, so no port is opened on the building's network and the phone and the panel never connect to each other.
A call, step by step
-
The visitor selects the apartment
The visitor types the apartment number or picks it from the list on the panel and presses Call. The panel shows the apartment's name and floor so the visitor can check it.
-
The phones of that apartment ring
Every phone registered to the apartment rings, at home or anywhere else, over Wi-Fi or mobile data. The live video from the entrance appears as the call opens, with the microphone still off. The first phone to answer takes the call.
-
The resident chooses
Four buttons: Audio to talk with the camera off, Video to talk and show the resident's own camera, Open door to release the lock, End to finish. The resident's camera is off unless they turn it on.
-
The door opens
Open door asks the server, the server authorises a single use and sends it to the panel, the panel tells the door controller, and the controller releases the strike for a few seconds. Both screens show "Door opened" and the access log records who opened it.
Opening the door without a phone
A PIN: press Open Door on the panel, type the code, press Unlock. A PIN can have a validity period, a weekly schedule and a use limit. Five wrong entries lock the keypad for a minute.
A tag: press Open Door and hold the tag against the reader. Tags suit people without the app, such as children, cleaners or the post. Today a tag is matched by its number, so it is as secure as a key that can be copied; secure chips are in development.
A guest QR code: a resident makes it in the app, sets a time window and a number of entries, and shares the picture. The guest holds it up to the panel's camera. The time follows the clock at the entrance.
All three are checked by the panel itself, so they keep working when the internet or the server is down.
When nobody answers
If the call is not answered, the residents of that apartment find a short clip of who rang in the app. Only that household can see it. The clip stays on the panel for about 48 hours; after the first viewing it can be replayed for 30 minutes. If the call was answered, or a resident saw the visitor and ended the preview, the clip is deleted at once.
The clip screen blocks screenshots and screen recording on purpose.
What the manager sees
The management portal holds the buildings, entrances and apartments, the residents and their invitations, PINs, tags and guest codes, the access log, the call history, the alerts and the panel's settings. Every sensitive action is written to an audit log.
